CPI Security is a proud partner of the Greensboro Grasshoppers baseball team. If you’re at a game, you’ll likely hear, “CPI Security, Safe at Home!” multiple times throughout the game. And CPI Security literally kept the CFO of the Greensboro Grasshoppers safe at home when his house caught on fire two years ago.
Brad Falkiewicz became a customer when he was referred to CPI Security by a coworker. Because of CPI’s partnership with the team, he felt like it was a good fit for his home security needs.
“It’s something you don’t think about that you have every day, that can save you from a catastrophic event,” Falkiewicz said.
Falkiewicz originally got home security for intrusion protections. What he didn’t realize at the time is that it would be CPI’s 24/7 fire protection that would save his home.
“Jan. 2, I woke up at about 4:45 in the morning to an alert on my phone that there was a smoke detector that went off in my house,” Falkiewicz said.
He was about 10 hours away from home visiting family at the time and was hoping the alert was just a false alarm. But within seconds, he received a call from CPI Security informing him that there was smoke detected in his home.
“They asked if I’d like to dispatch and I said, ‘Yes, immediately.’,” Falkiewicz said. “They must have dispatched within seconds because the fire department was there in less than five minutes.”
About three minutes after he got the call from CPI, he got an alert from his CPI Security inTouch™ app that his front door had been opened, letting him know the fire department arrived.
After about 45 minutes of battling the fire, the fire department put the fire out. They determined it started from an electrical failure in his breaker box located outside. The fire spread into his kitchen producing smoke that was detected by his CPI Smart Smoke Detector in the hallway.
“I was somewhat pleasantly surprised that my entire house was intact,” Falkiewicz said. “All your personal belongings that you collect your entire life are in your home. But nothing of value or personal value was destroyed in the fire.”
The fire department told him that if they didn’t respond when they did, his house would have been a total loss.
“All in all, I’m so thankful CPI was there. They were able to catch the fire before it got out of control,” Falkiewicz said. “CPI Security acted quickly ensuring my home didn’t burn to the ground.”
