The Importance of Multi-Factor Authentication and Why CPI Security is Implementing It

In today’s increasingly digital world, security is more important than ever. With the rise of online accounts and connected devices, the need for robust security measures has never been greater. One of the most effective ways to protect your online accounts and personal information is by utilizing multi-factor authentication (MFA). As a result of our commitment to your security, both in your home and of your personal data online, we are updating our security policy to require this important authentication process.

How to Set Up MFA

Setting up MFA is simple and can be done in just a few steps:

  1. Open your CPI InTouch app
  2. Tap the ‘More’ button in the bottom right corner
  3. Click ‘Login Information’
  4. Then click ‘Two-Factor Authentication’
  5. Choose how you would like to receive the security code: email, text message, or Authenticator app
  6. Fill in necessary prompted information, and click ‘Send’
  7. When you receive the verification code, enter it in the app and click ‘Verify’
  8. Optionally rename the device you logged in from and click ‘Next’ so your app knows it is a trusted device
  9. Click ‘Done’

What is Multi-Factor Authentication?

Multi-Factor Authentication is a multi-step security login process that requires users to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to an account or system. Instead of entering a username and password alone, MFA requires an additional layer of security, via a code sent to your mobile device, an email verification, or an authentication app. This additional step significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your account, even if your password is compromised.

Why is Multi-Factor Authentication Important?

Enhanced Security

Passwords alone are no longer enough to protect your accounts. With the increase in sophisticated cyber-attacks, such as phishing and credential stuffing, passwords can be easily compromised. Therefore, the primary reason to use MFA is that it adds an extra barrier of security by requiring something that only you have, like your mobile device. This extra simple step makes it much harder for attackers to gain access to your accounts and personal information.

Protection Against Unauthorized Access

With multi-factor authentication in place, even if your password is stolen, a hacker would still need your secondary verification method to access your account. This means that even if your password is compromised, your account is still protected by the additional layer of security provided by MFA.

Reducing the Impact of Phishing Attacks

Phishing attacks, where attackers try to trick you into providing your login credentials, are becoming more and more common. MFA can significantly reduce the effectiveness of these attacks because, even if you unknowingly provide your password, the attacker still can’t access your account without the second factor of authentication.

Compliance and Best Practices

Many industries and regulatory bodies are increasingly requiring the use of multi-factor authentication as part of their security standards. By implementing MFA, you are not only protecting yourself, but also ensuring that you are in compliance with industry best practices and regulations.

Why CPI Security is Implementing MFA?

At CPI Security, our mission is to enrich lives through technology by providing the best solutions in home and business security and home automation. We are constantly evaluating our security measures to ensure that we are offering the most advanced protection for our customers. In recent years, the rise in cyber threats has made it clear that stronger security measures are necessary to protect your accounts and personal information.

While MFA has been available to our customers voluntarily for over two years, the increasing risks in the digital landscape have led us to make it a mandatory feature. In the coming months, all CPI Security customers will be required to use MFA when logging into their accounts. Like everything we do, this decision was made with your safety and security at top of mind. By requiring MFA, we are ensuring that even if your login credentials are compromised, your CPI Security account remains secure.

Our Commitment to Your Security

We understand that change can be inconvenient, but we believe that the benefits of multi-factor authentication far outweigh any potential inconvenience. Your security is our top priority, and we are committed to providing you with the highest level of protection. We have been rolling out MFA gradually, giving our customers time to adjust and adopt this important security feature. Our goal is to have 100% of our customers using MFA as soon as possible.

Thank You, Customers

In an era where cyber threats are constantly evolving, it’s more important than ever to take steps to protect your online accounts and personal information. Multi-factor authentication is one of the most effective ways to enhance your security, and CPI Security is committed to ensuring that our customers have the best protection available. We thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we implement this important security feature. Together, we can keep your accounts safe and secure.
