2G Sunset Frequently Asked Questions

We are working diligently to alert those affected by the second generation cellular sunset (2G sunset) and are in the process of updating their systems. Below are a list of frequently asked questions as it relates to the 2G sunset. What is the 2G sunset?
AT&T announced that they are phasing out their second-generation or “2G” cellular technology to allow more space for newer generations of cellular communication. This process will be completed at the end of 2016. Depending on the time frame in which your security system was installed or serviced, it may be utilizing a 2G cellular unit that communicates to our Central Station. There have been no issues with this technology however now it will be phased out.
Please note that other carriers will begin to phase out their 2G networks throughout the coming years. This process is expected to be complete by 2020.
Does this have anything to do with my cell phone?
While the 2G Sunset, and movement towards 3G & LTE technologies does affect cell phones as well, your alarm system is not connected to your personal cell phone in any way. So even though you may have a 3G or LTE phone, and/or not using AT&T as a carrier for your phone, your alarm system has its own cellular unit that needs to be updated.
What is CPI Security doing to notify customers that may be affected?
CPI Security is dedicated to protecting you and what you value most. We are in the process of notifying customers who are utilizing systems affected by the 2016 2G sunset. Most of these customers have already been converted to an updated cellular unit or are in the process. If you have been contacted by CPI and identified as one of the customers affected, it is imperative we provide you a free update to ensure your system will continue to function properly. How can I be sure my CPI Security system is working properly?
Your alarm system is designed to notify you of any detected problems, but the best way to see if your system is working is to test your system. Feel free to test it at any time day or night at your convenience.
To test that your system is communicating properly, please contact the CPI Central Station at your convenience at 1(800) 948-7133, option 1 and advise the Operator you wish to test your system.
